304 or 316 woven wire cloth for a corrosive service?

In a chloride or coastal environment specify 316 or 316L; 304 will develop tea staining and eventually pitting. For most indoor and dry services 304 is adequate and noticeably cheaper. Confirm the service chemistry before choosing.

How do I specify mesh — by count or by micron?

Coarse screens are specified by mesh count (openings per inch) and wire diameter. Once you go fine, specify by aperture in microns and the weaving method (plain vs Dutch), because two "400 mesh" cloths from different weaves can have very different filtration ratings.

Ordering questions

What is the typical minimum order and lead time for woven wire mesh?

The usual minimum is 10–50 rolls per specification, mixed mesh counts can usually be combined, and repeat specifications run 10–25 days ex-works for stock weaves, 30+ days for fine or exotic alloys. First orders with new tooling or custom colours sit at the long end of that range; stock configurations sit at the short end.

How should woven wire mesh be packed for export?

rolls in anti-rust paper and woven outer wrap, cores to avoid creasing; fine filter grades individually sleeved. If your shipment routes through humid climates or long storage, say so in the RFQ — packing upgrades are cheap at the factory and expensive as a claim.

Which quality tests should accompany a woven wire mesh shipment?

At minimum: mesh count per inch (and wire diameter); aperture / opening measurement; weave-type verification (plain / twill / dutch); wire tensile and ductility; surface cleanliness for filter grades. Type-test certificates qualify the design; ask additionally for per-batch routine records, which are what tell you what actually shipped.

What goes wrong in the field with cheap woven wire mesh?

The recurring failure modes are: alloy substitution (304 sold as 316); wrong mesh count; broken or slack wires. None of them are visible at goods-in, which is why the specification and the batch records matter more than the sample.
