5 Costly Mistakes When Buying Anti-Bird Netting

Most of the money lost on anti-bird nettings orders is not lost on price. It is lost on five repeatable mistakes that are all avoidable at the specification stage — before anything is made, shipped or claimed.

Mistake 1: Net failing within two seasons

How to avoid it: Agree the acceptance criterion and the inspection stage in writing, and reference it on the packing list so the check is not optional.

Mistake 4: Treating every anti-bird netting quotation as the same product

Suppliers legitimately differ on mesh size (smaller mesh = more twine per m²); twine diameter and knot type; UV package and test evidence. A quotation lower than the others usually means one of those levers was moved, not that the margin was thinner.

How to avoid it: Force every quotation onto the same one-page spec — HDPE knotless (standard); HDPE knotted (heavy duty, gull pressure) as the material basis — so the price spread means something.

Mistake 5: Ignoring packing and freight until the invoice

4. Test evidence agreed: mesh breaking force per ISO 1806; UV ageing 3000 h with strength retention ≥ 90 %; knot slippage check after load cycling.
5. Packing priced as a line item: rolls in woven bags; made-up panels folded with the perimeter rope tagged per corner.
6. Minimum order and lead time understood: 500 m² standard mesh; made-up panels from 200 m², 12–25 days; made-up panels add 5–10 days.
