5 Costly Mistakes When Buying Anti-Bird Welded Mesh Panels

Most of the money lost on anti-bird welded mesh panelss orders is not lost on price. It is lost on five repeatable mistakes that are all avoidable at the specification stage — before anything is made, shipped or claimed.

Mistake 1: Coating flaking at the cut edges

How to avoid it: Put it in the specification, not in an email afterwards: the grade, the tolerance and the test that would have caught it.

Mistake 2: Mesh distorting when cut to size

How to avoid it: Ask for the per-batch test record that proves the property in question — weld shear strength sampling; coating adhesion mandrel wrap — before the goods ship, not after they arrive.

How to avoid it: Agree the acceptance criterion and the inspection stage in writing, and reference it on the packing list so the check is not optional.

Mistake 4: Treating every anti-bird welded mesh panels quotation as the same product

Suppliers legitimately differ on stainless vs galvanised wire; aperture and wire gauge; PVC or powder coating colour. A quotation lower than the others usually means one of those levers was moved, not that the margin was thinner.

How to avoid it: Force every quotation onto the same one-page spec — galvanised + PVC-coated (standard); AISI 304 welded (ventilation / plant rooms) as the material basis — so the price spread means something.

Mistake 5: Ignoring packing and freight until the invoice

How to avoid it: State the packing and labelling in the RFQ and make it a priced line on the quotation, so the comparison is honest.

1. Grade and standard fixed on paper: galvanised + PVC-coated (standard); AISI 304 welded (ventilation / plant rooms), to ISO 9227.
2. Size range confirmed: mesh 6–13 mm (sparrow-proof) up to 25 mm; wire Ø 0.5–1.2 mm; sheets 1×30 m rolls or cut panels to size.
3. Finish and coating stated: PVC coating 0.4–0.6 mm after coating; black, green, grey; stainless left bare or powder-coated.
4. Test evidence agreed: weld shear strength sampling; coating adhesion mandrel wrap; salt spray 720 h (coated).
5. Packing priced as a line item: rolls in woven bags; panels interleaved on edge in cartons.
6. Minimum order and lead time understood: 500 m²; cut panels from 200 m², 12–22 days; cut panels add 3–7 days.
