Reading a specification properly

Most disputes in this category come from a specification that was never written down precisely. A complete RFQ for wire mesh states:

1. Construction — woven / welded / hexagonal / expanded.
2. Base metal and grade — e.g. Q195, galvanized, SS304, SS316.
3. Wire diameter — in mm, not "gauge".
4. Aperture or mesh count — in mm or mesh per inch, and say which.
5. Roll width and length, or panel dimensions.
6. Surface treatment — hot-dip galvanized, electro-galvanized, PVC coated, and the coating thickness or g/m².
7. Tolerance — what deviation you will accept on aperture and wire diameter.
8. Packing — rolls in woven bags, pallets, steel strips, container loading requirement.
9. Quantity and delivery window.

The two specifications that most often get quietly downgraded are galvanizing weight and wire diameter. Both are invisible until the material arrives, and both are measurable on receipt, so build a receiving inspection step into your process before you place the second order.

Price drivers to understand

Four variables move the price more than anything else: base metal grade, wire diameter, zinc coating weight, and whether the surface treatment is done in-house or subcontracted. Because Anping prices track steel wire billets closely, quotations usually carry a validity window of only a few days. Do not assume a price held in January survives to March.

Order quantity is a softer lever than buyers expect. Many Anping factories will run a container-load at a reasonable price and are reluctant to break that structure for a single pallet, because machine setup for a non-standard mesh is the real cost. If you are testing a new product, ask for a trial quantity and expect to pay a genuine premium for it rather than assuming a discount will be negotiated later.

How to vet a supplier in Anping

Ask for three things before discussing price: a business licence, the specific machines they own (not the generic "we have many machines" reply), and photographs of a recent export packing run. A factory that genuinely exports will have container loading photos and a customs record it can show.

Then do one test order at a size large enough to be inconvenient — a single pallet or a single roll is too small to reveal how a supplier behaves when something goes wrong.
